University of Alabama at Birmingham (Department of Medicine) Chooses DataScholar™ UAB Supplements eThority® Solution with Commitment Management and Financial Centers eXtensions

Charleston, SC, October 6, 2010 - eThority®, a leading provider of "user-obvious" enterprise performance and productivity solutions, today announced that University of Alabama at Birmingham's Department of Medicine has chosen DataScholar to optimize financial reporting and increase transparency. DataScholar is a higher education performance engine, powered by eThority, that optimizes institutional performance with complete data access and comprehensive, interactive analytics.

In the Department of Medicine's search for a solution to address their unique financial reporting needs, it was established that a "generic BI solution" would not solve their most complex problems. Specifically, UAB was looking for a way to consolidate all account statements and manage commitments that are not tracked in traditional systems of record. DataScholar was selected as the most adept at handling these needs. Pulling in data from multiple, diverse systems, DataScholar will unify UAB's data for reporting from a single system.

Using DataScholar's Commitment Management eXtension, all of the Department of Medicine's financial encumbrances, commitments and A.R will be tracked in one location and integrated into the university's current financial outlook. UAB's Department of Medicine will also be using the Financial Centers eXtension, which provides a quick snapshot of an account's financial activity, with the ability to drill down for further investigation or troubleshooting. Financial Centers also combines current financial activity with future commitments through tight integration with Commitment Management, providing a more accurate picture of current financial status.

"UAB's Department of Medicine is focusing on improving our understanding of the strategic and economic drivers of the competitive environment in which we work," said Edward Abraham, MD, Chairman, UAB Department of Medicine. "As we are faced with ever more challenging fiscal climates, we must improve our organizational performance in relation to our strategic goals. To achieve this, we needed a more sophisticated, yet user friendly analytical framework to provide tools that did not currently exist (or existed inconsistently in shadow systems). We needed a product that will allow us to integrate and deliver the data and information our leaders and managers need in order to run the business of building a sustainable model in which to fulfill our tripartite mission of education, research and clinical care."

"One of the reasons that DataScholar is such a powerful solution for financial reporting is that it integrates financial data sources. The analysis derived from unified, up-to-date financial statements helps institutions accurately assess their current financial situation and better plan for the future," said eThority President and CEO, Mike Psenka. "We are proud to partner with UAB's Department of Medicine for this undertaking."
